Wastewater Treatment Systems – West Palm Beach, Florida 

Opportunity : 

Parsons Corporation has an immediate opening for a mid-level Mechanical Inspector with wastewater mechanical construction experience. 

We are in the mechanical phase of constructing a 3-story centrifuge dewatering facility and odor control systems at a 70 MGD Wastewater Treatment plant in West Palm Beach. The job will be completed in the second quarter of 2018, but we expect to be performing resident services and CM for a Process water treatment and distribution system on the site in parallel and continuing on until later in 2018. This assignment is approximately for 1 year duration. 

  • We need a mid-level person with wastewater mechanical construction experience. Experience in use of Bentley EADOC construction management software is desirable.

Responsibilities : 

Conducts inspections to determine if work has been done in accordance with contract plans and specifications and may include any of the following: 

  • Installation of mechanical equipment
  • Building and facility construction and associated site development
  • Taking project photographs on a daily basis and filing them

In addition: 

  • Maintains office files related to the project, quantity calculations and writes daily diaries.
  • Prepares daily reports and other documentation, as required by the contract
  • Verifies that only approved materials are incorporated in the work.
  • Performs labor compliance interviews and maintains as-built plans.
  • Recognizes potential conflicts, issues and problems, and reports to supervisor with proposed solution.
  • Collects, reviews and files Certificate of Compliance, MSDS, inspection tags and other information relevant to the materials used.
  • May provide technical guidance to lower-level inspectors.
  • Participates in the development of job safety practices and in the preparation of safety reports.
  • Participates in the development of quality control reports and procedures.
  • Reports on installed quantities to verify applications for payment and change order work.
  • Responds to the call backs in case of emergency at the project site.
  • May administer welder qualification tests.

Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate. 

Requirements : 

  • 2-year degree in a technical discipline or construction-related field, or a high school diploma and equivalent work experience, is required.
  • Also requires 5-10 years of related experience with wastewater treatment systems on field projects, as well as formal certification from an independent organization, depending on type of inspection assignment.
  • Experience and training with Parsons systems and procedures is highly desirable
  • Some knowledge of public works contracts may be preferred.
  • Construction safety training including OSHA 10 hour training and Parsons SHARP training.

Skills / Competencies : 

Must be able to read and interpret plans and specifications and be thoroughly familiar with construction-related processes related to the area of assignment. Knowledge of English grammar and composition, the ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing; to follow oral and written instructions, prepare written messages and simple charts and graphs. Capability to perform math calculation in order to prepare engineering calculations, graphs and charts. Proficiency with basic computer usage, Microsoft Office, Project Management Software and internet search engines (like Google or equivalent). Ability to comply with multitude of requirements as applicable to the project based on client and industry standards. Must have thorough understanding of scheduling, and the ability to review progress pay estimates and extra work bills. Must be able to recognize hazardous work conditions and take action if necessary. Ability to use good judgment and work with others is required. Requires ability to climb ladders, inspect work above ground, and work in confined spaces.
